BIOGRAPHY

I am Breanna Escamilla (she/her/hers), and I am a Doctoral Candidate in Linguistic and Sociocultural Anthropology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). I also hold Graduate Minors in Latina/Latino Studies from the Department of Latina/Latino Studies and Queer Studies from the Department of Gender & Women’s Studies.

Currently, I am a spring 2024 Charles and Janet Keller Fellowship recipient from the UIUC Department of Anthropology and a 2023 - 2024 fellow with the UCLA Center for Critical Internet Inquiry.

Prior to UIUC, I was a first-generation college student at Michigan State University and earned my B.A in Anthropology in 2018 with undergraduate minors in African American and African Studies (AAAS) from the Department of AAAS and in Chicanx/Latinx Studies from the Chicano/Latino Studies Program. As a first-generation college graduate and graduate student, I am also affiliated with the UIUC First Generation Student Unit.
